Juan Miguel Suero's triple-double lands him Santiago League Player of the Week award- April 18, 2021
The 27-year old player recorded a triple-double of 30 points adding also 11 rebounds and 13 assists, while his team edged out CDP (#2, 5-2) 103-102. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Cupes to consolidate first place in the Dominican Rep. Santiago League. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Cupes has a very solid 7-2 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. In the team's last game Suero had a remarkable 57.1% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Cupes, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Juan Miguel Suero has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (7th best: 19.1ppg), assists (4th best: 6.9apg) and averages impressive 55.1% FGP. The second best player in last round's games was another Cupes' star - 25-year old Jaison Valdez (188-PG-95). Valdez had a very good evening with a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds. It was enough for Cupes to edge slightly lower-ranked CDP (#2, 5-2) 103-102. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Cupes consolidated its place in the very top position of the standings. His team has currently 7-2 record. Valdez is one of the most experienced players at Cupes and similarly like Juan Miguel Suero has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. Third on the list of top players last round was center Eloy Vargas (211-C-88, agency: Duran International) of league's second-best CDP. Vargas scored 23 points and grabbed fifteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Vargas' great performance CDP lost 102-103 to #1 ranked Cupes. But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing CDP needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 5 victories and 2 lost games. Vargas has a great season in Dominican Republic. After only 7 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 10.9rpg (2nd best). He also has 2.1bpg and FGP: 57.3%. Other top performing players last week: 4. Oliver Garcia (188-G-96) of Plaza - 40 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists 5. Saul Mejia) of Plaza - 14 points, 21 rebounds and 4 assists 6. Juan Guerrero (205-F-93) of GUG - 23 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists 7. Luis Santos (203-C-94) of Cupes - 24 points and 6 rebounds 8. Adris De Leon (180-PG-84) of CDP - 23 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists 9. Jose Omeriza) of GUG - 12 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists 10. Paris Bass (203-SF-95) of CDP - 19 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
